In some areas of Europe over 25% of married people are looking to add some spice to their life and have an affair.

The new study, taking information from across the whole of Europe, shows a very clear ‘heat map’ of where in Europe these relationships are being sought.

The data was, in some ways, surprising – with certain areas playing to type and leading the way in the search for an affair, notably the Nordic Countries, led by Sweden and Denmark– but this was confounded by other areas, such as Spain and Poland, climbing up the rankings in their desire to look for a bit of excitement that they are not currently getting within their marriages.

The research was done on a city by city basis within Europe and focused on the numbers of currently married people who were looking to have an extra-marital liaison. From the data, it is apparent that in the vast majority of urban areas, people are looking for that special something outside their current relationship. It is also apparent that the larger the city, the greater the incidence of people seeking an affair, suggesting greater ease of opportunity, but also the size of the ‘market’ available. This can often be in direct contrast to the country as a whole, where the rates for infidelity may be somewhat lower.

The data from the research did point to a top 10 of cities across Europe having extra marital affairs,
