Recent surveys tracking extramarital affairs revealed that women are having more affairs than ever before.

According to the National Opinion Research Center’s General Social Survey, the percentage of men who admitted to infidelity stayed at 21 percent, while “the percentage of wives having affairs rose almost 40 percent … to 14.7 percent in 2010.”

In results published in 2011, the Normal Bar polled more than 100,000 people and collected over 1 million data points. Over 19 percent of women admitted to having an affair. The Normal Bar’s survey reported that one of the most common reasons women have affairs is boredom, with 49 percent of women claiming boredom drove them outside their main relationship. For many women, having an affair is about exercising their sexual autonomy. They aren’t necessarily unhappy with their current flame - at least not enough to trade him in for a new model. But they are up for a break from the monotony of their daily lives, and ready to heat it up inside the bedroom.
